A strange little etching in colours by the Latvian artist and architect Juris Pansov showing figures walking along a path with a tall wood behind. Three of the figures appear to be human and three, in white, would appear to have wings. In good condition, and pencil signed and numbered 5 from a run of 7, this work is titled in Latvian.

An exquisite bronze and ivory figure of a young woman reading, dressed in a headdress and elaborately embroidered costume in the pre-Rapheite style, holding the pages of her book in two hands. By the French artist Albert-Ernest Carrier-Belleuse, who numbered Rodin amongst his students. Made circa 1880-1900, this figure can be found in a number of sizes, either as a solid bronze figure or in and bronze with ivory head and hands, as can be seen in this present work. In fine condition.
Measures 61 cm high.

A vibrant oil on canvas entitled “Planet Sun” signed by the American abstract expressionist artist Norman Carton and dated 1959. Signed by the artist, lower right, this work comes with a note of provenance indicating that it was purchased by a named lady at an American gallery (name indistinct) in 1961. The writer, possibly the woman’s husband who initialled his comments, notes that the picture was …..”bloody awful, I think, but I may be wrong”. There is no doubt that he was right that he was wrong The painting is super.
