Born 1604 in Eure, Northern France, in 1604, Gabriel Perelle, was a draftsman and printmaker of topographic views, specialising in classical landscapes. With the assistance of his sons Nicolas and Adam, he founded his own etching workshop, producing several hundred engravings both from his own drawings and from those of a number of his competitors. Most of these engravings in the etching and intaglio mainly depicted landscapes of the Paris region, including views of castles, bridges, ruins and other devices. He died in Paris in 1677.

An Extensive Landscape by Gabriel Perelle (c.1650)

A romantic landscape by the 17th century French draftsman and printmaker Gabriel Perelle (1604-1677) showing two figures in the foreground with a horsemen and other figures behind. Typical of his work, this original etching, dating from around 1650, shows ruined buildings and a bridge in the distance. Below the image the work is titled – Inviuente et Grave par Perelle – avec Priuil du Roy – A Paris Chez Pierre Mariette, Rue S. Jacques a L’Esperance.

In good condition bearing in mind its considerable age.

Measures 17 cm wide by 9 cm deep (31 cm by 22 cm in its ebonised frame).
