William Henry Hunt (1790-1864) was an influential painter and watercolorist, specialising in rural and rustic scenes. Whilst he also painted landscapes, portraits and figures, and worked at times in oil, he was primarily known for his still life paintings of fruits, including grapes, apples and peaches and for his compositions of nuts, fruits, flowers and birds nests.
Hunt was an early and key member of the Society of Painters in Water Colours (later renamed the Royal Watercolour Society), and was instrumental in the establishment of the English school of watercolor painting. He exhibited at the Royal Academy and the Royal Watercolour Society.
