Pieter Colen is the pseudonym of Koenraad Overmeire (b. 1952). He studied at the Art Academy of St. Lucas in Ghent from 1972 to 1976, when he graduated from the Department of Monumental Arts. Subsequently he worked as an independent etcher, until 2000, working as much as possible outside the common art circuit. From 1994 he used his own name, Koenraad Overmeire, to sign his work and from 1994 onwards he published a number of books containing short stories and etchings, each time in very limited numbers (these works are in the possession of the Royal Library of Belgium). From 1991 to 2006 Colen, who hardly ever shows his work at exhibition, served as a part time educator with people with learning difficulties..

A lovely etching in colours, numbered 7 from a run of 95, by the Belgian artist Koenraad Overmeire who signs himself Pieter Colen. This work, one of a pair, shows two musicians playing their cellos. Signed, titled and numbered by the artist, this is in good condition.
