One of the great copper engravers of the 20th century and one of its finest animal artists, Kurt Meyer-Eberhardt was born in Leipzig and died in Munich in 1977. He studied at the Weimar Academy of Fine Arts under Lyonel Feininger and Theodor Hagen. Declining a professorship at Weimar, he went to Munich where he decided to work on producing engravings of animals. Since 1917 he had been published by Hanfstaengl in Munich, a copper print shop, who owns the copyright of his archive and other artists.
