John Maggiotto studied art history and studio photography at the State University of New York at Buffalo. His true apprenticeship in fine arts took place at Hallwalls, an alternative artists’ collective, which led to a three-year position at the National Endowment for the Arts in Washington, DC.

Whether creating photo emulsions on marble or stunning fine art prints, John Maggiotto creates images that are textural and painterly, explorative and meditative.

To create his highly innovative prints on marble, Maggiotto paints a photosensitive emulsion onto stone slabs from a quarry near his home. This allows a print to be made directly on the hard stone, resulting in compelling pieces with a unique look.

Nine Horses by John Maggiotto (2000)

A very interesting giclee print on archival paper of an original photo emulsion on marble by the American artist/photographer John Maggiotto,  titled “Nine Horses”. Produced in 2000, this work is signed and titled in pencil and  is numbered 12 from a run of 99. This image and the title was used for the front cover of a book of poems written by Billy Collins, the Poet Laureate for America beteen the years 2001 and 2003.   A copy of the book comes with this artwork (see image).  (Will ship to the USA but please contact Bill for delivery quote if interested). In good condition in its original frame.
