Absolon, who studied art at the British Museum, originally painted miniatures before turning to watercolours. Later he was employed as a theatrical scene painter at Covent Garden. He was elected to the Royal Institute of Painters in Watercolours in 1838 and the Royal Institute of Oil Painters in 1883. He showed 58 works at the R.I., 5 at the R.O.I. as well as at prestigious galleries and societies in Liverpool and Manchester.
