Born in 1859 in Didsbury, Manchester, E. Hedley Fitton was an engraver and printmaker noted mainly for his highly detailed architectural etchings, which included some of the most significant civic and ecclesiastical buildings, streets and bridges in Europe. A pupil at the Warrington School of Art in Cheshire, Fitton travelled and worked extensively in England, Scotland, France and Italy. In 1907 the Société des Artistes Français awarded him a Gold Medal for his work. He exhibited at the Royal Academy, the Royal Society of Painter-Etchers and Engravers, the Royal Watercolour Association and at the Paris Salon. He became an Associate of the Royal Society of Painter-Etchers and Engravers in 1903 and a full member in 1908. He died on the 19 July 1929..
