Tag: Gyokuho Hasegawa

Born in Kyoto in 1822, Hasegawa Gyokuhō was trained by Matsumara Keibun (1779-1843), one of Kyoto’s leading artists of the Shijō school. Recurring themes of Gyokuho were portraits and kacho-e (bird-and-flower paintings) and at his best his work is hardly distinguishable from that of his teacher.He died in1879.

Trees by Gyokuho Hasegawa (1822-1878)

A delightful and very subtle watercolour on silk by the Japanese artist Gyokuho Hasegawa. This shows a landscape with trees in the foreground and others, in mist, in the distance. Signed  in Japanese. in good condition, recently reframed.

Measures 15 cm wide by 19 cm deep (38 cm by 44 cm in its frame`).
