Born in Glasgow, Scotterz studied art as a mature student at Glasgow College of Art and Design under William Gillies and Ann Redpath. Much influenced by the Scottish Colourists, he went on to became a well-collected and popular though reclusive artist, living near Glasgow. The Irish landscape, which he visited regularly, features prominently in his work as did Glasgow dock scenes, harbours, barges and flower studies.
