Artist: Aklexander Merrie Hardie
Following a career in Education, during which he held a number of senior posts, becoming Principal of the College of Technology in Bristol and Pro Vice-Chancellor of the University of Bath, the Cromarty-based landscape and portrait artist Alexander Merrie Hardie exhibitied widely across the UK, showing at some of the country’s most prestigious institutions, including the `Royal Scottish Academy. After spending much of his life in England, he returned to Scotland to live beside the sea on the Moray Firth, where he painted the surrounding Black Isle landscape and the streets and buildings of the town of Cromarty which he so loved.
Another super little watercolour by Dr.Alexander Merrie Hardie showing an extensive landscape with a farm in the foreground and hills behind. Signed lower right and dated 1960 by the artist. Bears a label, verso, indicating an Aberdeen address. and that it may have been shown at the Royal Scottish Academy in 1960. In good condition in its original frame and mount.

A very pleasing pastel by the Cromarty artist Alexander Merrie Hardie (1910-89) showing a lane and the backs of houses in the Ross-shire village where he lived and worked. In fine condition in its original frame, this work is signed by the artist and dated 1961.
