Born in Aberdeen in 1917, of Italian immigrants, Alberto Morrocco OBE FRSA FRSE RSW RP RGI LLD (1917-1998) was a child prodigy, a Scottish artist of landscapes, still lives and portraiture who was known for his superb draughtsmanship and traditional teaching practices. After graduating from Gray’s School of Art in Aberdeen, which he had entered at the very young age of 14, he travelled in Europe, following which most of his professional life was spent as Head of Painting at Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art in Dundee. Imprisoned in Edinburgh Castle as an enemy alien during World War Two, Alberto later served in the Royal Army Medical Corps. In 1980 he was Awarded an honorary doctorate by the University of Dundee and painted the university’s chancellor, the Queen Mother. Alberto’s best work was done in the 80’s and 90’s when he created an array of exquisite still lives and wonderful imaginative landscapes with characters (beach-lovers, peasants and melon sellers of which this present work is an example) from his beloved Italy.
A very nice limited edition print, numbered 280 from a run of 500, by the Scottish artist Alberto Morrocco. Signed and numbered in pencil and in its original frame and mount.
