Berriedale, Sutherland by William Daniell

A fine steel engraving with aquatint by the  landscape and marine artist  William Daniell (1769-1837), showing a view of Berriedale on the road to the far North in Sutherland. In good condition, recently remounted. With some faint foxing but otherwise good.

Measures 31 cm wide by 22.5 cm deep (40 cm by 29 cm in its frame).

An etching in colours by the Scottish artist Alec Coutts Fraser showing a view of the River Thames at the ancient hamlet of Strand On The Green. This village, in what is now Chiswick in London, dates from the 13th century and earlier. Signed and titled in pencil by the artist, this work is in good condition in its original frame and mount.

Bonnie Prince Charlie after John Pettie R.A. by Robert C. Robertson

A fine etching in colours by the Glasgow artist Robert Cecil Robertson (1890-1942) after an original painting by John Pettie (R.A.)    This work, which is signed and titled in pencil,  is in good condition and shows the Young Pretender  entering the ballroom at the Palace of Holyroodhouse, Edsinburgh.  He is wearing Prince Charles Edward Stuart tartan and the riiband and star of the Order of the Garter. At his feet are strewn silk favours. The figures with the Prince  are, most likely,  Cameron of Lochiel (c. 1700-1748), and Alexander Forbes, 4th Lord Pitsligo (1678-1762). Both were loyal chiefs, who joined the Prince’s uprising in 1745 but lived out their lives in exile and in hiding after the defeat of the Prince’s forces at the Battle of Culloden.

Measures 36 cm wide by 48 cm deep (50 cm by 60 cm in its frame).

The Scottish watercolourist Robert Scott Irvine taught art at Edinburgh’s George Watson’s College and this is a very nice etching he made of one of the city’s other renowned places of education, George Heriott’s School. Signed and titled in pencil and numbered 3 from a run of 25, this work is in good condition in its original frame and mount.

Measures 14 cm wide by 10 cm deep (30m cm by 40 cm in its frame).
