Born in Clydebank in 1948, Tom McKendrick is one of Scotland’s most imaginative and creative contemporary artists who uses a variety of materials, objects and media – including welded steel, clay, watercolour, oil, light, electronics and kinetics – to create vibrant, multi-media shows and artworks such as this, suggestive of religious or architectural influences. After serving an apprenticeship in John Browns Shipyard, Glasgow, he went on to study at the Glasgow School of Art. In 1985 he was elected to the Royal Society of Watercolorists and three years later to the Royal Glasgow Institute. Between 2009 and 2012 he served on the Council of the RSW.
