I have no information about this artist and have assumed that he may be Scottish. On the other hand there are several paintings from the Berks County area in the USA that bear the signature, S. West. It is thought that these paintings are the work of more than one painter and are attributed to Arthur B. Shearer, his brother, Victor Shearer, and their cousin, George C. Rohrbach. Several of the known examples are dated between 1900-16. Whether this is the same artist as the “S.West” here I cannot say – seems unlikely since my picture was acquired in Scotland.
