Robert Cleminson was a painter in oils of landscapes, Highland game and sporting dog pictures and it his animal and dog paintings for which he is best known. He exhibited 10 works at the British Institution which was established as a rival to the Royal Academy, at Boydell’s Shakespeare Gallery in Pall Mall, London. He exhibited further works at the Society of British Artists, Suffolk Street, London. Shakespeare Gallery in Pall Mall, London.
A pair of fine oils on canvas depicting stalking ponies and gundogs, in a Highland setting: one signed by the English artist Robert Cleminson (fl.1865-68) of whom these are typical.
Each measures 40 cm by 30 cm (50 cm by 40 cm in their original frames, and in good condition).
