Born in 1960 in Africa, Ralph Kiggell was an English artist based in Thailand, where he had his studio. After completing his Batchelor of Art degree in Chinese studies at the School of Oriental and African Studies in London, he went on to research contemporary woodblock printing and other techniques in Japan where he was to gain an M.A. in printmaking studying under several renowned Japanese and oriental printmakers and producing a wide variety work reflecting both the natural and the urban environments as well as traditional Japanese subjects.
Signed lower right and titled by the artist this is a fine woodblock print by the English orientalist Ralph Kiggell showing two sumo wrestlers in mid-tussle. Numbered eight from a run of fifty. In good condition, newly framed.
Measures 27 cm wide why 28 cm deep (45 cm by 48 cm in its frame).
