Born in Carshalton, Surrey in 1936, Peter Standen studied at Nottingham College of Art and Craft in the early 1950’s before moving to Edinburgh where he completed both his undergraduate and postgraduate studies at the College of Art. After travelling extensively in Spain, Egypt, Africa, Sudan and the Middle East, he
went on to teach art at Trinity Academy in Edinburgh, later
becoming the Scottish Arts Councils Artist in Residence with Ferranti in Dundee in 1987. A member of the Edinburgh Print-makers Workshop since 1972 and of the Scottish Society of Artists since 1965, Standen has shown his work at a number of prestigious galleries and institutions and is represented in collections including the City Arts Centre and the Royal Bank of Scotland.
