Josephine Haswell Miller (1890-1975) studied at Glasgow School of Art from 1905 to 1914 under Manning Bell and Maurice Grieffenhagen. Whilst still a student she executed a mural on canvas entitled ‘Science’ (1913) which was hung at Possilpark Library, Glasgow. She also studied in Paris and in London under Sickert. Later, she taught etching and architecture at the school of art. In 1938 she became the first woman to be elected associate of the Royal Scottish Academy.
An extensive landscape entitled Lake Lugano, morning, from Albogasio – signed by the Glasgow artist Josephine Haswell Miller ARSA (1890-1978) and bearing a Royal Scottish Academy label, verso, dated 1967. Also carries a Christies auction label. In fine condition.
