James Cadzow was a Scottish landscape painter and etcher who was educated at the Edinburgh College of Art before taking up a position as Professor of Art at Dundee High School. A frequent exhibitor at the Royal Scottish Academy, the Glasgow Institute of the Fine Arts and at the Walker Art Gallery, Liverpool, Cadzow depicted, through his etchings and engravings, scenes of Scotland’s countryside, particularly its lochs, bays, mountains and trees. All of his works were highly received for their fine attention to both detail and atmosphere and for their textural qualities. The vast majority of his etchings were published in editions of fifty.
