A graduate of Tan Guan Hin Chinese Painting School & Glasgow School of Art, Hock AunTeh was born in Western Malaysia of Chinese parents. Athough born in Malaysia and working in Glasgow, he is by background and upbringing essentially Chinese, carefully schooled in calligraphy. His work reflects this marriage of Eastern and Western influence and culture, showing, as it does, both the spontaneity and expressive freedom found in the most highly prized of T’ang calligraphic masters and the colours and high-tech materials of modern western art. Whilst his work is often classified in the West as abstract expressionism, it is abstract expressionism with a considerable difference. His work can be found in many public collections worldwide, including The National Gallery of Malaysia, Kuala Lumpur; the National Art Museum of China, Beijing; the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Congress, Beijing; The Gallery of Modern Art, Glasgow; The Dick Institute; Kilmarnock Art Gallery & Museum; Edinburgh City Arts Centre, and the Scottish Arts Council in Edinburgh.
