Possibly the work of George Holmes, a Plymouth artist who exhibited at the Royal Hibernian Academy in the 1840’s. There was also an Irish artist of the same name – could be the same man or related to him – an illustrator and landscape draughtsman who worked for a number of Irish and English magazines in the late 1700’s and early 1800’s and who is known to have signed a drawing of Bristol in 1809.
A very nice pair of landscapes – oils on card – most probably of continental scenes. One shows a quiet street and the other is a beach scene. One of the pictures is signed G. Holmes. Both are in good condition in their original frames.
Each measures 30 cm wide by 24 cm deep (38 cm by 32 cm in their. frames).
