Fred Farrell was a self-taught etcher and watercolourist of portraits and topgraphical subjects who exhibited at the Glasgow Institute, the Royal Academy, the Royal Scottish Academy, the Connell and Sons Gallery, the Fine Arts Society and Liverpool’s Walker Gallery. As an etcher he was greatly influenced both stylistically and with advice by Muirhead Bone. Originally, he studied civil engineering in London. He was the Official Artist with the 51st Highlanders, 1914-1918.
Pencil-signed and in good condition, this fine etching with drypoint is by the Glasgow artist Frederick Farrell (1882-1935) and depicts an extensive landscape with Stirling Castle. Marked “trial proof” in pencil by Farrell. Remounted in original frame.
Measures 35 cm by 20 cm (59 cm by 45 cm in its original frame and mount).
