Born in Wick, Caithness, Frank Colclough lived in London for a time and originally worked as a design draughtsman while studying art at Camberwell Art School. On returning to Scotland in 1975, he embarked on a career as a professional artist.
Colclough’s early paintings were in watercolour, but more recently he has worked in acrylic and oils, finding inspiration in the work of the Scottish Colourists. There influence can be seen in his pictures of marine views of the Scottish West Coast and colourful still life studies. He has exhibited at the Royal Scottish Academy, the Royal Glasgow Institute, the Paisley Art Institute and the Royal Scottish Society of Watercolour Artists.
