So impressed by the beauty and majesty of the landscapes in the Highlands of Scotland he saw during a holiday here that the artist Frances E. Jamieson decided that he wanted to paint them. Thereafter he was to return here many times, painting the scenery – the mountains and glens, the croft-houses and farms and the rivers and lochs. And the public liked what they saw, his pictures selling like hot-cakes in the more up-market shops and department stores in Glasgow, Edinburgh and the Central Belt of Scotland. So successful and productive was he that, to stay one step ahead of his clients and patrons – the very owners and proprietors of these shops – that he resorted to using up to eleven aliases, including Aubrey Ramus, J. McGregor, Graham Williams and J.M. Ducker. Jamieson’s work is still popular and still sells well at auction and at galleries up and down he country.
