Born in Sydney, Australia in 1946, Edwina Ellis designed and made jewellery after attending the National Art College in Australia, before moving to Britain in 1972. After studying metal engraving at the John Cass College, London, she moved on to engraving on wood for making prints and designing. Since then her freelance career has included engraving and designing a poster for London Transport and the masthead of The Times newspaper, plus four ‘bridge’ one-pound coins for the Royal Mint. She also produced fourteen minted coin designs including a two pound piece featuring London Transport and the Stephen Hawking 50 pence. Her Fine Art PhD from Aberystwyth University in 2010 involved researching and experimenting with colour and compound printing.
A lovely relief engraving by the Australian-born designer, engraver and printmaker Edwina Ellis, now living and working in Wales. Titled “Arab Lock”, this work is in good condition, signed, titled and numbered 34 from a run of 100, in its original frame.
