Predominantly a painter of seascapes and of the harbours and fisher-folk living alongside the Scottish coast, Colin Hunter (1841–1904) was a Glasgow-born Victorian artist who presented his first work ‘Taking In The Nets’ to the Royal Academy in London 1868. Sixteen years later he became an Associate Member of the Academy. and went on to exhibit nearly 100 paintings in the Universal Exhibitions in Berlin, Vienna and Philadelphia between 1886 and 1891. He also painted in Ireland, Cornwall and Devon and America.
