Alexander Wellwood Rattray (1849-1902) was a landscape painter and watercolourist. Born in Glasgow and educated at Glasgow University and Glasgow School of Art, he painted mainly in the Highlands, the East coast of Scotland and on the Mull of Kintyre An active exhibitor, he showed 23 works at The Royal Academy, 2 at the Royal Institute, 66 at the Royal Scottish Academy, 37 at the Royal Watercolour Society, and others elsewhere. In 1885 he joined the membership of Royal Scottish Society of Painters in Watercolours and in 1887 was elected a member of the New English Art Club. He became an associate of the Royal Scottish Academy in 1896.

An Extensive Highland Landscape by Alexander Wellwood Rattray

An extensive Highland landscape with a Scots Pine tree in the foreground and a cottage in the distance by the well-listed Scottish artist Alexander Wellwood Rattray (1849-1902).   This oil on canvas is in its original frame and is in good condition, ready to hang. The work is unsigned but, it bears a signature, verso, of his daughter Annie Wellwood Rattray together with a stamped confirmation  that this is the  work of her father.

Measures 46 cm wide by 72 cm deep (56.5 cm by 83 cm in its frame).
