Born in Inverness, Alastair Flattely studied at the Edinburgh College of Art between 1949 and 1950 when he gained an Andrew Grant Travelling Scholarship to Spain and a Fellowship in Painting in 1953-55. Flattely won a Charles Jervase Prize in 1950 and a Stewart Prize in 1952 at the Royal Scottish Academy. He went on to lecture at the Edinburgh College of Art and at Gray’s School of Art in Aberdeen and was principal at Gloucester College of Art, Cheltenham from 1960 to1972. He exhibited at Wildenstein, the Scottish National Gallery of Modern Art and Public galleries in Aberdeen, Dundee, Glasgow, Hull and Cheltenham all hold examples of his work as do the Royal Scottish Academy, the Nuffield Foundation, The Fleming Collection and, Somerset County Council. HRH The Duke of Edinburgh also held his work.
A very nice little oil on board by the fine Scottish artist Alastair Flattely. Shows a harbour scene with fishing boats at Bridport, in Dorset. Signed by the artist and in good condition in its original frame.
Measures 22 cm wide by 15 cm deep (33.5 cm by 26 cm in its frame).
