A Whirling Dervish – Original Golfing Cartoon by Peter Hobbs

This original pen and ink cartoon by Peter Hobbs is untitled but it certainly does look as though this poor sportsman is spinning like a peerie on top of his hill. In good condition this work, by the London-based cartoonist Peter Hobbs, dates from the 1930’s.

Head Of A Decorated Ox by Joseph Crawhall (1861-1913)

A delightful watercolour  depicting the head of an ox which has been decorated, presumably for a Spanish festival.  Painted by Joseph Crawhall (1861-1931) who was closely associated with that group of artist known as the Glasgow Boys which included such artistic luminaries as  James Guthrie  and E.A. Walton. This work is unsigned which is not uncommon for watercolours by this artist and is in good condition in its original frame and mount.

An Extensive River Scene with Fisherman and Ruin Above

A very nice little Victorian watercolour in a gold gilt frame showing a deep river gorge with a fisherman casting a rod and a man and woman behind. Above is the ruin of a tall building. Unsigned. In good conditon, remounted in its original frame.

A very nice wash drawing by the English artist James Bourne (1773-1854) showing figures in front of Rebarn House in Penge Common. This work is in good condition and is signed  and titled in the artist’s own hand, verso, together with his London address at No 4 Somerset Street, Portman Square.  There is also a label for Newman Fine Art. This work was sold at Bonhams in Solihull in 2009.
