Dugald Sutherland McColl enjoyed a long, distinguished and varied career as artist, lecturer, art critic and galleryist. He studied at Westminster School of Art and the Slade School and later travelled to Greece and Italy, specialising in landscapes and architectural subjects. He became Art Critic of The Spectator in 1890 and later of the Saturday Review.He was elected to the New English Art Club in 1896 and went on to serve as Keeper of the Tate Gallery between 1906 and 1911 and of the Wallace Collection between 1911 and 1924.
A super little pencil drawing of the harbour at Honfleur in France by the Glasgow-born artist Dugald Sutherland McColl (1859-1948). Initialled, lower left, and dated 1904, this work is in good condition having recently been reframed.
Measures 29 cm wide by 11.5 cm deep (47 cm by 30.5 cm in its mount and frame).
